Pets Canada is conducting two advocacy initiatives to improve the lives of pets and their owners across the country.

We are urging the provincial government to remove the provincial sales tax (PST) on pet food, recognizing its essential role in animal care. The financial burden of this tax limits access to proper nutrition, affecting both pet owners and already strained veterinary and shelter systems. By removing this barrier, we can improve animal health and well-being while reducing pressure on the healthcare system.

Additionally, Pets Canada encourages the government to include pets in their provincial emergency planning strategies, acknowledging their importance as family members during crises such as floods and wildfires. By ensuring funding for their emergency evacuation, we can prevent heartbreaking choices and strengthen community resilience.
