Burgham Sales Ltd is a 3rd generation family-run business that has serviced Canada’s pet specialty channel since 1954.  We have a dedicated sales force that covers the entire country from coast to coast, providing sales and support for retailers to succeed in a competitive market.  We specialize in developing market presence for our own Burgham brands, along with our preferred and key vendors by partnering with independent retailers who share our passion for quality pet products.  

THE OPPORTUNITY  The new Sales representative for Eastern Ontario/Maritimes will be the face of our company for their customer base, striving to drive growth, building long-term relationships across these key markets. Working closely with your Regional Sales Manager, you will: 

- Represent and grow multiple food and accessories brands and products 
- Build and manage relationships with accounts and generate new leads.  
- Develop creative solutions to help retailers succeed with our products 
- Deliver education and training to your retailers on our brands to your retailers 
- Attend and work industry trade shows and events 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Sales Excellence & Brand Development 
- Meet and exceed monthly and annual sales quotas through strategic sales execution and in person visits 
- Drive growth by launching new products and brands in market 
- Develop new retailer relationships while expanding existing partnerships Identify and pursue new opportunities with existing and prospective accounts 
- Maintain strong working relationships to ensure exceptional service 
- Handle difficult conversations with professionalism 

PRODUCT & MARKET KNOWLEDGE
- Develop expertise in all product lines, as well as remain current with market trends 
- Provide product demonstrations and training seminars as required  
- Manage and approve retailer credits 
- Track and submit sales call and expense reports 
- Plan and organize daily work schedule efficiently 

WHAT A TYPICAL WEEK LOOKS LIKE 
- Daily territory visits: 4-6 store visits per day, 4.5 - 5 days per week (within driving distance) 
- Administrative work: 1-2 days per month for paperwork, credits, expense reports and territory planning 
- Team collaboration: Weekly virtual team meetings 
- Occasional evenings/weekends: Store events and consumer activations (on an as need basis) 

ANNUAL TRAVEL COMMITMENTS
Eastern Ontario: 
- Overnight trips: One night every 2 weeks 
- Maritimes: 3 visits per year in person, remainder by phone, video, email remotely 
- Trade Shows: 1-2 per year 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR 
Ideal Candidate
- 3-5 years of Pet Industry experience a must, or 3-5 years of B2B sales experience 
- Proven track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets 
- Strong negotiation skills with ability to handle difficult conversations 
- Creative problem-solver who develops innovative solutions 
- Self-motivated with consistent "boots on the ground" mentality 
- Strong organization skills Pet Food and accessories knowledge, or strong willingness to learn 

Requirements:
- Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle 
- Home office with reliable high-speed internet (employee-provided) 
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint) 
- Ability to travel overnight when required, and must be comfortable traveling by air 

Compensation & Benefits: 
The successful candidate will receive a base salary, monthly vehicle stipend, as well as commissions based on sales in their territory, paid monthly. A bonus structure is also in place.  Common business expenses related to the job are also covered by the company (e.g. gas, hotel and travel as required for the job, etc.) 

With our base salary, commission structure and monthly vehicle stipend, top performers earn $75,000-$85,000 or more annually.
